“Building trust brings best results”
says Dawn McKenna. This has been the catchphrase since
the 1980’s when Dawn first ventured into Real Estate. A licensed real
estate agent for over 20 years and achieving sales records, Dawn has
always believed in building trust with her clients. Her logo stated it
all. “The name you can trust”
After many successful years in Real Estate, Dawn took a
break to recover from a family trauma when she found herself involved
in a situation that showed her that many young people, with little
money and full of hope, were losing the little they did have by being
promised housesits that didn’t eventuate. It upset her deeply, and at
the time she told the person involved that she would work out a way that
Housesitting could be part of her Property Management and that she
would work out how it could be done so that both parties, both the
Housesitter and the Homeowner were happy. It took a further 18 months
to get it to a workable stage but in October 2002 the Housesitting
Service began.
Dawn was thrilled that the phone calls, especially from
clients when they came home from their holidays, were all so
encouraging. The service grew so rapidly that a name change was
created so that each state could have their own office.
It has now grown into a hugely successful national
Company, and yet still retains the personal service that is so
important.
Dawn’s down to earth nature, and honest straight down the
line approach to business has meant clients develop a long-standing
relationship with the Company. “When clients invite someone to stay
in their home they want to know the person can be trusted, which is why
I and my staff take the time to thoroughly check out each housesitter
and get to know them”, says Dawn.
“As a large percentage of our Homeowners are Baby
Boomers, I can at 55 years young understand what gives them total peace
of mind when they go away and what type of person as a Housesitter can
offer that. I can also see it from the Housesitters side and my
experience in people skills over the past 30 years helps me to choose
very, very wisely. My staff are also chosen for their caring, friendly
and yet professional attitudes.”
Dawn now spends a great deal of time away from home,
traveling to her offices throughout Australia, which makes her
appreciate her family when she is home. As well as having an adult
daughter and son, Dawn has a 7 year old “lovable little monster” (as
pictured above) Timmy, who is definitely a reminder of the attention
dog’s need and that they need someone to love them while away from home.
